Alex Van Herk – On Trial & Facing Time In Prison For Involvement In Coutts Blockade
We speak to Alex Van Herk who, along with 2 other men, is standing trial and facing up to 10 years in prison for taking part in the blocking of the border crossing at Coutts Alberta in February of this year. People who participated in that blockade are also speaking at the inquiry in Ottawa as the Coutts blockade is also being used as a reason for enacting the Emergencies Act.
Alex is a farmer and it had snowed the night before so he had to be out plowing as we were supposed to be starting the interview. But as we were watching some footage from the day before, from outside the Lethbridge courthouse where the trial is taking place (big crowds in support), we finally got Alex on the phone! So make sure you watch this one right to the end!
A convoy of trucks from around the province was also set to descend on Lethbridge with a growing police presence set to handle the crowds.
